Director of Children and Family Ministries

Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Scale/Rate: $21.00 to $23.00 per hour @ 30 hours per week (full-time); pay checks issued bi-weekly
Leave Time:
Vacation – 60 hours per year as of January 1; prorated if hired after @ an appropriate percentage based on the date of hire
Sick – as per employee handbook
Compensatory Time – can be earned as follows, with Lead Pastor’s approval
1 – hour per hour for those worked above 40 hours
2 – 8 hours per day for overnight trips:
a – if assigned to workshops or seminars
b – taking kids to overnight trips, lock-ins, or the like
Accountability:
1. Reports directly to the Lead Pastor and secondarily to the SPRC Committee.
Qualifications:
1. Must have an interest in the lives of children and families.
2. Must have a desire to see them grow into Christian disciples.
3. Must have an adequate education and maturity coupled with the desire to understand and relate to children and youth.
4. Must have the ability to communicate effectively as a representative of CHUMC.
5. Must have organizational and leadership skills.
6. Must be able to obtain Godley Play certification.
7. Prior experience working with children is preferred.
8. Must be a Christian and have/lead a lifestyle that is “Christ-like”.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate, plan and implement Family Ministry programs including weekly Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, Children’s time, Second Story, and special events.
2. Create opportunities for children and families to participate in worship experiences and service opportunities.
3. Identify, coordinate, and equip leaders and volunteers.
4. Maintain consistent communication with families, pastors, volunteers, leaders, and office staff through diverse channels such as staff meetings and regular office hours, aiming to share information, foster relationships, and identify needs.
5. Cultivate a partnership in ministry with the directors of the day school and the Child Development Center and serve on their administrative board as a representative of Colonial Hills UMC.
6. Oversee the church nursery in conjunction with the Nursery Coordinator.
7. Create an annual budget request and keep records of ministry expenses while being a good steward of resources and facilities.
8. Observe CHUMC safety policies including Safe Gatherings certification requirements.
9. Perform other duties as needed.
Expectations:
1. Maintain office hours within the established office hours while maintaining a flexible enough schedule to work on Sundays during services, and other dates as the ministry requires. (Office hours will be assigned by the Lead Pastor)
2. Keep, maintain, and submit a record of your time sheet via Toggl.
3. Follow all policies and procedures of the Employee Handbook.
4. Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to the general role of Children’s Director as need arises or assigned.
5. Keep and submit attendance records (to the Church Administrator) for:
a. Sunday School classes (population per class)
b. Saturday Night Out
c. 2nd Story
d. Special Events (VBS, etc.)
6. Keep and produce when requested a communication log of all communication to parents of children involved with CHUMC.
